Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.

A senior representative said the attack rendered him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
