19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with former mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from that period of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet saved four early-game break points in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
